Well, this is just plain annoying. Do academics in their ivory towers believe they can create scholarship out of just about anything? I can just picture the monty python ‘upper class twit of the year’ contest skit, imagining Dr. Dude’s thesis “advisors” discussing the esoteric spirituality of snowboarding with him. What’s next?

Where will this end? It’s ridiculous what universities will accept as PHD theses. Note that he had to go to some obscure school in England to get anybody to okay this topic – just a self-indulgent excuse to snowboard while he’s doing his “research”. Oh please.

I see nothing wrong with this – academic study should involve incorporating everyday life into its research, not just test tubes in a lab. I say CONGRATS to Dr. Dude!

Are you kidding me? Where do I sign up for a PHD in some of MY hobbies? I like to go running, play tennis, I’m a knitter, I belong to a Book Club, I enjoy live theater, I play the recorder, I bake my own bread – SURELY one of those might qualify me for a doctorate too!?!?!
