I am a decent person who IS appalled by this kind of behavior.

I believe however that it’s wrong to single out only the drug companies who hire the ghostwriters as the sole villains here, although it is of course their financial gain that is the prime motivation. To pull this off, there must be complicit involvement from medical journal editors and those doing the “peer review” of these journal articles. There is simply no way these two groups could be unaware of what’s going on. And the MDs who sign their names as “authors” of work they did not do – these should be “named and shamed”.

Happy Holidays to you, Ms. Ethical Nag, and all the best in your writing adventures for the year ahead. You do a great service here!!!

Unbelievable. This may be commonplace for drug companies, but every decent person reading this should be completely appalled.

I’m sure you know U.S. Senator Grassley has been a man on the prowl investigating ethics and industry’s close ties to the medical profession. He’s relentless.

In fact, my gobsmacked reaction to this very subject is largely why the Ethical Nag site was launched in the first place last year. I had just learned about lawsuits filed in the U.S. by thousands of women diagnosed with breast cancer- a diagnosis suspiciously linked to their hormone replacement therapy (HRT). And this month …Read More […]
