Here’s more on that case.

It’s no longer enough for doctors to sit by quietly and say nothing while drug companies like GlaxoSmithKline flagrantly flaunt regulations – and then happily pay $3 billion in criminal fines for illegal marketing of their drugs as if this were just the cost of doing business, which it is.

I applaud the long overdue Bad Ad Program and urge all physicians to come forward whenever possible.

Not “communism” – just due diligence on the part of those who are in the business of prescribing pharmaceuticals.

“Comparing a doctor’s ability to report untrue drug claims to a “jihad” is especially preposterous…”

I disagree with you. This is Big Brother come to life, with doctors being able to “turn in” others to authorities even anonymously. Why anonymously? Is this a communist country now? It is the slippery slope to complete takeover by socialist forces.

It means an army of ‘deputies’ on the lookout for their misleading promotional activity. Saying that health care providers somehow do not “understand” what a misleading drug ad is is just plain insulting.

Comparing a doctor’s ability to report untrue drug claims to a “jihad” is especially preposterous.

And there is a very good reason that doctors do not like Direct To Consumer (“ask your doctor”) advertising – these ads are all about MARKETING, not MEDICINE. This is why DTC ads are illegal here in Canada.

I REALLY enjoy your site —- always a unique, intelligent perspective and food for thought. Keep up the good work Carolyn.
